A new infill transit station on the Mandurah line. PTA engaged Georgiou Group as the ECI contractor. MPS Architects & CA Architects in a successful joint venture (CAMPS) were the lead design consultant with Brett Priest (MPS Architects) as the Design Manager. CAMPS issued quotation documents to 3 sub consultants for each discipline, assessed submissions, issued recommendations for PTA approval and CAMPS engagement of preferred sub consultants. Fees were a variation against a provisional sum in CAMPS contract. CAMPS, PTA and Georgiou worked collaboratively through the design to 85% stage to allow Georgiou to appreciate project requirements, develop construction methodologies, infl uence the design and agree a price with the PTA. The process provided PTA with the confidence that safety, time and cost were secured before novating CAMPS to Georgiou when awarding the Construction Contract to Georgiou. The Station is located within the Rail Reserve in the Kwinana Freeway median consisting of an island Platform and concourse over. The station entry buildings link the Western and Eastern car parks to the station platform via a covered pedestrian overpass. The Western entry building houses necessary station services and facilities. Lifts and escalators provide access from the entry buildings to the concourse and onto the station platform.
The station was designed to face North instead of the PTA planned South direction. CAMPS provided a station building design that allowed the Mandurah line and freeway to remain operational during construction and accelerated program while mitigating risk, by;
The overpass being structurally independent of the station building
The Communications and Electrical Room being independent of the Station Building
Box form of the Station Building allowing for off site fabrication
All Overpass support structure within the Rail Reserve to be within the platform.
CAMPS worked with the ECI contractor Georgiou Group to develop solutions to construction issues generated from working within an operating environment. For the most part these were temporary works and the utilisations of permanent structure to support temporary structure and the associated Earthing and Bonding.
