Morley–Ellenbrook Line (Ellenbrook Line)
Alliance Development (RFP) – Concept Design, 2020
Client: METRONET / Public Transport Authority (PTA)
Architect: Coniglio Ainsworth Architects (CAA) + MPS Architects (CAMPS JV)
Shortlisted Alliance Team: Ellenbrook Alliance (CPB Contractors, Downer EDI)
Project Overview
Our concept design for Malaga Station was developed as part of the Ellenbrook Alliance bid for the Morley–Ellenbrook Line RFP, which was ultimately awarded to and delivered by the MELconnx Alliance. The Malaga Station concept positions the station as a civic anchor within a future town centre, integrating transport modes and connecting emerging precincts.
Urban and Site Response
The platform sits within a rail cutting, enabling an at-grade concourse aligned with a future pedestrianised main street. The entry building anchors a key crossing between northern and southern precincts. Landscaped public spaces enhance amenity and frame views to distant hills.
Architectural Design
The design prioritises clarity and flexibility, with a central foyer transitioning between unpaid and paid zones. Vertical transport is highly visible and future-proofed. Back-of-house areas are separated to maximise public space. A singular raking roof unifies the station while providing shelter and controlled daylight.
