In 2020 Coniglio Ainsworth Architects (CAA) joined with MPS Architects as the CAMPS JV, participating in the Alliance Development phase for the Morley–Ellenbrook Line Request for Proposal (RFP) tender with the shortlisted Ellenbrook Alliance team including CPB Contractors and Downer EDI.

As part of that tender, CAMPS proposed the design for Noranda Station on the Morley-Ellenbrook Line (now known as the Ellenbrook Line), which also included proposals for five other stations.

A multidisciplinary design approach was adopted to ensure that the Station design was cohesive with the Urban Design, Placemaking, Landscape Architecture and Engineering design for the Station and the Precinct. Noranda Station was designed to become an aesthetically pleasing landmark that marks the start of the ‘bush line’ into Whiteman Park. The Precincts close proximity to Lightning Swamp bushland and Whiteman Park ensure that Noranda is well placed to mark the transition from the freeway character of the south, into the bush environment of Whiteman Park. Aligning with the idea of Perth as a ‘Wildflower Capital’ the precinct includes several shade structures with planted arbour treatments.

A Garden Walk with selected flowering WA native species on the Eastern edge of the Precinct provides a green, walkable route for pedestrians arriving at the Precinct. The Garden Walk will also provide a visual buffer, screening neighbouring properties from the Precinct. Street Trees along the Benara Road and revegetation along the highway verges and retention basins will enhance bush character of the Precinct and provide ecological and aesthetic benefit.

The architectural design concept of Noranda Station proposes a striking response to its location situated within the Tonkin Highway median abutting the primary Benara Rd east-west vehicular and pedestrian link. The eastern station entry building and pedestrian overpass link to Benara Rd provide distinct and clearly identifiable entry points to the Station and support intuitive wayfinding.

The Eastern Station Entry Building is organised around the highly visible primary vertical circulation elements linking pedestrians efficiently to the concourse level and to the pedestrian overpass. The entry building also houses Staff and Public amenities providing convenient access to the carpark which is anticipated to be the primary arrival point for patrons.

The Station elevated concourse building continues the design theme of the Station Entry building providing an expressive contiguous roof and western façade element that provides protection for patrons against the western weather elements. A visually permeable full height screening element to the eastern façade provides patron weather protection whilst providing passive surveillance of the carpark and eastern Entry Building.

A simple low-level roof is provided to cover the platform operational portion providing a more modest scale to the platform arrival and departure experience.
