Thornlie Station is a key part of the current State Governments METRONET Thornlie - Cockburn Link project. The Thornlie-Cockburn Link (TCL) is one of Western Australia’s Government’s major infrastructure projects being delivered to support Perth’s population growth. It will be Perth’s first east-west connection and will efficiently join the southern suburbs by providing a more flexible and higher level of public transport.
The existing Thornlie station is currently an end of line bus/rail transfer park ’n’ ride station. The project brief for the station upgrade is to upgrade and modify the station to become a through facility with marginal platforms that are to be extended from 100m to an operational length of 150m, to the south western end of the station. With the station becoming a through station, a new concourse with associated vertical circulation will be provided to facilitate pedestrian connection between the two platforms and the station entry building. The upgrade of this station also includes upgrades for DDA compliance, minor works to the Park and Ride and rationalisation to the Kiss and Ride area. Multi-modal access improvements will also be made on the wider network to support sustainable mode choices to access the rail station and bus interchange. The proposed alterations and additions to Thornlie Station are designed so as to maximise the pedestrian and staff experience and convenience at the station, whilst enabling the station to remain operational as much as practicable during construction. The proposed new pedestrian overpass and vertical transport provide an addition that compliments the existing architecture and provides a clear simple connection between the platforms to assist with intuitive wayfinding for pedestrians.
