O'Brien Road
Situated on a property in Gidgegannup, the site for this rural holiday house has an elevated position overlooking the Walyunga National Park. The house is nestled amongst an outcrop of mature Eucalyptus wandoo trees which were all carefully surveyed to ensure that the house could be sited to avoid impacting any of them. The house is orientated due north to enable good passive solar control and the narrow linear plan form ensures all areas enjoy the valley views and benefit from cross ventilation.
To minimise transport and on site labour construction costs the project is designed as a transportable house with five transportable modules that can be delivered to site on a flatbed truck. This enables the majority of the project to be prefabricated off site, limiting on-site works to only basic site and services connection works.
