Sherwood Station
The off form concrete shelters for this station upgrade have a smooth outer wall surface neutral in colour, whilst the inner wall and soffit surfaces are richly coloured and textured like an amythyst stone to create an element of surprise and delight. Strategically punched openings in the shelter wall facilitate surveillance and minimise the degree of light contrast between shaded and open platform areas. The station precinct is more clearly defined through a common ground surface treatment with ramps and stairs that have been completely reconfigured to provide a more accessible and civic entry to each platform. Retaining walls are introduced enabling platform widening and for designated pedestrian paths to border the carparks, which have been resurfaced and lifted to reduce accessible ramp lengths. The design carefully addresses the impact of construction and enables continued public use of the platform and carparks during the majority of construction, minimising service disruptions.
