Queens Park Station

The Queens Park design provides for a safer, more attractive station environment to comply with current Universal Access standards and encourage increased patronage. The project strives to reduce PTA's recurrent maintenance expenditure by utilising concrete shelters over steel. The inspiration for this approach comes from the old concrete bus shelters throughout suburban Perth, that have stood the test of time and only require the occasional coat of paint. A central valley roof gutter runs down the rear sloping column into a platform level stormwater drain, eliminating the need for metal gutters and downpipes which can block and rust. The recessed coffer on the soffit accommodates surface mounted services for ease of replacement and maintenance. The shelters provide increased cover and seating and allow passengers to move down the centre of the platform rather than just the edges, improving surveillance, way finding and minimising bottle necks between departing and arriving passengers. A dynamic addition to station architecture in Perth.
