Cultural Centre Amenities
This modest City of Perth upgrade project was considered by the design team and subsequently the City, as providing a bigger opportunity than the initial brief suggested, given the building sits amidst the heart of the Cultural Centre Precinct, which includes the WA Museum, WA State Library, Art Gallery of WA, PICA, Arts House and the Performing Arts Centre. Specifically framed views of the surrounding site are captured within the Male and Female amenities and, coupled with natural light which has been strategically funneled into the spaces, provide a sense of connection with the precinct beyond as well as improving passive surveillance and security for patrons. The design team also instigated collaboration between the City of Perth and the Art Gallery of Western Australia which resulted in the inclusion of 9 artworks into the scheme. The project attempts to evoke a sense of surprise and delight, adding an unexpected layer to the revitalization of Perth's Cultural Centre Precinct.
