Beckenham Station

This project strives to unify the previously estranged halves of the existing Beckenham station. The station precinct is more clearly defined through a common ground surface treatment with ramps and stairs that have been completely reconfigured to provide a more accessible and civic entry. The open arrangement of the two shelters provides improved surveillance and a safer, more welcoming station environment. Retaining walls are introduced enabling the platforms to be widened and for designated pedestrian paths to border the carparks which have been resurfaced and lifted to reduce accessible ramp lengths. The design carefully addresses the impact of construction and enables continued public use of the platform and carparks during the majority of construction, minimising service disruptions. The dynamic tension created by the dancing shelters seeks to visually bridge the divide and unify the station.
